Hieronder vind je een lijst van Amerikaanse senatoren. Dit zijn de huidige leden van de Amerikaanse Senaat; een van de twee huizen van het Amerikaans Congres.

Uitleg

De Senaat bestaat uit 100 leden. Iedere van de 50 staten levert twee senatoren. Het inwonersaantal speelt hierbij dus geen enkele rol. De senatoren worden gekozen door de inwoners van de staat die zij vertegenwoordigen. Iedere twee jaar vinden er verkiezingen plaats, waarbij slechts een derde van de leden wordt herkozen. Normaal gesproken dient een senator dus zes jaar, maar kan zich herkiesbaar stellen (zonder een limiet). Het kan voorkomen dat een senator overlijdt, opstapt of gedwongen wordt om af te treden tijdens zijn/haar termijn. In dit geval stelt de gouverneur van de staat een nieuwe senator aan tot de volgende verkiezingen.

In onderstaande tabel worden enkele begrippen gebruikt:

  • Democraat: Dit is een senator die lid van de Democratische Partij is.
  • Republikein: Dit is een senator die lid van de Republikeinse Partij is.
  • Onafhankelijk: Dit is een senator die geen lid is van beide partijen. Onafhankelijke senatoren zijn meestal wel min of meer verbonden met een van de twee partijen.
  • Junior senator en senior senator: Iedere staat heeft twee senatoren. De senator er het langste zit wordt de senior senator genoemd; de nieuwste heet de junior senator. In het geval dat de senatoren op hetzelfde moment worden gekozen, wordt gekeken naar de leeftijd. Dit zijn slechts titels; beide senatoren hebben dezelfde functie.

Washington D.C. en de Amerikaanse overzeese gebieden (zoals Puerto Rico) leveren geen senatoren en zijn daardoor niet vertegenwoordigd in de Senaat.
