How to establish and improve interwiki links with bots?
I've known and practised a tool designed to establish interwiki links between different editions of Wikipedia, which was used around 2005-2008 I believe (i.e. before Wikidata existed) and was called the "Wikipedia Interwiki-Link-Checker". I found a few old links to it, but it's no longer active: [1], [2], [3] and a message about it : [4].
It looked for homonymous articles on different editions of wikipedia, then you chose 2 languages, and the tool was designed to show you side-by-side homonymous articles. You would check them and click if you saw they were on the same topic, not the same topic (or "I don't know").
I'm not sure whether the tool waited until it had collected responses from several users to ensure a match, but in any case it used these responses to populate interwikilinks between articles that the user had indicated were on the same subject. As a user, you could review many articles one after the other, and this would fill in many interwikilinks.
You can guess what I'd like to propose: that someone recovers this tool or rebuilds it, in order to compare Wikikids articles with their Wikipedia namesakes (or the article to which this title redirects), and check whether they deal with the same subject. If they are, it would fill the Wikidata item with the Wikikids ID. We'd make it work with fr.Vikidia and fr.Wikipedia, at least for articles that don't yet have an interwiki to Wikipedia or a Wikidata element pointing to them, and so on for other versions of Vikidia. Then, when as many Wikidata items as possible have been populated with their Wikikids and Vikidia IDs (with Wikikids and Vikida properties), another bot would use them to populate with reciprocal interwikilinks between Wikikids and Vikidia editions (and between different Vikidia editions).
This would undoubtedly be quite an important task, one to be refined as we go along, but one that could be very powerful and effective once developed/perfected to fill most possible interwiki links. - For exemple it seems that Soldaat van Oranje does not match with Soldaat van Oranje, which is a "doorverwijspagina" (but with Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema, and then its Wikidata item Q2248705). Astirmays ° Ov 13 okt 2023 15:21 (CEST)
